Sharing God's Word

READ: Acts 17:1-4

AUDIENCE INSPIRATION: Paul obviously had an "eye for an opportunity" (v1).  Let's pray that we will be sensitive to opportunities to share God's Word.

A PATTERN ESTABLISHED: The first time we share God's Word probably presents us with the greatest challenge. Paul obviously established a pattern (v2). Let's pray that we will be able to do the same.

A SERMON OR A SERIES: Sometimes we cannot say all we have to share in just one opportunity. In the workplace we can  arrange to meet our colleagues and talk  again. If we are preaching in a church we may need to be more structured. Paul preached his message over three weeks (v2). Let's pray that we will be able to share appropriately for every situation.

USE THE BIBLE: It is God's Word, not our ideas, that will change people's lives (v2). Let's pray for a good understanding of God's Word that will help us in our sharing.

REASONING: Paul was aware that we only communicate when people are able to understand what we say. He was able to reason with people who needed a thoroughly thought through statement (v2). Let's mention those we know who particularly need a reasoned presentation of truth and then let's pray that they will respond to the Lord.

EXPLAINING: Explanation is an important aspect of communication. Paul was able to explain clearly (v3). Let's mention those we know who particularly need clear explanations and then let's pray that they will respond to the Lord.

DEMONSTRATING: Demonstration is also an important aspect of communication. We are not told exactly how Paul demonstrated the gospel but it is evident that there was proof to support his words (v3). Let's mention those we know who particularly need evidence to back up the words and then  let's pray that  they too will respond to the Lord.

THE CROSS AND RESURRECTION: Paul made a point of teaching on the cross and resurrection (v3). These matters are so important that we must be able to put them across effectively. Let's praise the Lord for what He has done for each one of us in dying and rising  again for us.

THE CENTRALITY OF CHRIST: It is obvious from the New Testament that Jesus (v3) must be our major preaching theme. Let's take a few moments just to worship Him.

MEASURING SUCCESS: There is wisdom in the statement that we should share the good news and leave the results  to the Lord  (v4).  This is why preaching and prayer should go hand in hand. Let's pray for each other that we will know the Lord's encouragement as we share His Word.
