Hugh's September Newsletter

September has been a very full month…

I’ve travelled around the country and spoken at a variety of different places; from churches to conferences and from in prison to Scotland Yard. It really has been a privilege to minister in so many different settings. This has all been possible due to both your financial and prayer support, and for that I am very grateful.

It began with an amazing service organised by the Free Church Chaplain in Littlehey Prison and has seen me with CiC churches in Horncastle, Wisbech and Euston (London). I have also been with those reaching out to the community in Hitchin and others engaged with schooling and university education.

To add to this, it was a privilege to minister in various ways for Christ Chapel. I want to say a sincere thank you for the way I have been welcomed as I have travelled around the country. These opportunities always mean a great deal to me.

Another highlight from September was the Forum of Churches Together in England. It is a three-yearly event, so this September was my second time as attending as the Free Churches President. Much of the programme at Swanwick centred around interaction with the Presidents. I found these Q&A sessions really stimulating. The interaction between the six of us was also rewarding and I count it a joy to know that my re-election secures a third Forum for me in 2021.

Going the Extra Mile

When I was speaking at one of these events someone described me as being willing to go the second mile. This was a great opportunity to say that I had actually agreed to go a lot further than that. On Saturday 22nd September I walked the Marathon (26.2 miles) with my wife, Marion, to raise funds for two new projects that Charis Communications is supporting: Kickstarted and roarlight. To find out more about these projects visit walk.hughosgood.com and whilst you are there please donate.

You will see that I found covering the miles easier than reaching my target but I will keep the funding page open until mid-October in anticipation of your generosity.

‘The Church: Where We Are Today’

When the Bible talks about the unified body of Christ, it can look a little disconcerting when we see multitudes of denominations. In this episode, Hugh and Paul discuss whether God is happy with the many splits of the church, who it is for and the problems we face today.
