March 2010 Report
a generational celebration
Thirty two years ago, Marion and I had a Ugandan church-member living in our London home. When Florence returned to Kampala a few years later she had a passion to start an orphanage but was daunted by the size of the task. Nonetheless, her vision inspired the church and when another of our church members, on a visit to Kenya, met a Ugandan pastor who had some orphan children in his home, our sponsorship programme began. This March we attended the 25th anniversary of the project, called Christian Family Helpers. A landmark for me because of my foundational involvement but a landmark too for Trevor because of his twelve years of educational consultancy work.
Usually we aim to fit in our project support work around our preaching ministry but this time the project had to have first place, even though we were not short of ministry opportunities. Although this visit to Kampala was short, we will devote the rest of this report to the celebration. So many dignitaries honoured the day that it seems appropriate for us to also honour the longevity of the project by setting aside the space on our website for a full photographic report.
We do, of course, want to acknowledge the other churches and ministries that hosted us during March and will do so more fully as and when we make return visits. If nothing else, this report will show our desire to establish long-term commitments.
‘One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts’ Psalm 145:4.
